Victor Boniface: Werder Bremen coach unveils plans for Super Eagles striker

Werder Bremen coach Daniel Thioune has stated that he is hoping to have Victor Boniface back in action before the end of the season, Soccernet.ng reports.

Boniface has spent the last three months on the sidelines due to a knee injury. He underwent surgery in January and returned to his parent club, Bayer Leverkusen, to undergo rehabilitation.

The 25-year-old striker returned to the pitch last month and has been working his way through the recovery process, which included training with Bayer Leverkusen's under-19s.

On March 1, news broke that the former Royale Union SG man had returned to Werder Bremen to complete his loan deal and finish his recovery.

The Nigeria international has already been spotted at the club's training ground performing individual drills. They expect him to return to full training with the rest of his teammates next week.

Ahead of Die Werderaner's game against RB Leipzig at the Weserstadion this weekend, it has been confirmed that Boniface will be unavailable.

However, there is a strong possibility that the Super Eagles star will return before the season concludes.

Werder Bremen play RB Leipzig this weekend in a crucial fixture for their Bundesliga survival. Ahead of the game, coach Daniel Thioune spoke about Boniface, admitting he is looking forward to having the Nigerian back in the squad.

“First of all, I’m happy to have met him. We had a long talk, and he indicated that he wants to help us in our fight to stay in the league,” Thioune said during his pre-match conference.

”For me, that offers another option, but not for this weekend. In the coming weeks, we’re playing against teams of similar strength, and if we can give Victor a few minutes of playing time, that could be a big help and a real asset for us.”

As it stands, Die Werderaner are seven points above the automatic relegation spots. So they will need to secure as many points as possible from their final seven games.

With his proven quality, Boniface would provide a massive boost if he returns at the peak of his powers.

The club will be hoping he reaches full fitness quickly to aid their battle to stay afloat. If all goes according to plan, he should be back on the pitch before the end of April.
