Michael Stewart says Rangers will 'wrap Tuur Rommens in cotton wool' after what he noticed vs Dundee United

Rangers will maintain their concerns over Tuur Rommens even after securing victory over Dundee United on Sunday.

Danny Rohl’s side welcomed the Tangerines to Ibrox on Saturday and secured a 4-2 win to send them top of the Scottish Premiership.

Even with goals from Ryan Naderi, Dujon Sterling and Thelo Aasgaard, things were made difficult at times for the Gers before Bojan Miovski sealed the three points.

That doesn’t totally take away from the defensive frailties on show in Govan, with Jim Goodwin’s side able to create their fair share of chances.

Jayden Meghoma started against Dundee United as Rommens missed out, something which Michael Stewart wasn’t the biggest fan of.

Jayden Meghoma struggles on show vs Dundee United

Scoring four at home to secure a massive victory to go top of the league should be entirely positive, but the Light Blues caused themselves problems on the day.

United were able to create chances and get shots away on Jack Butland’s goal, but a lack of quality ultimately saved the Gers.

A majority of their opportunities were forged down their right-hand side as Neil Farrugia and Luca Stephenson caused problems at Ibrox.

They seemingly saw Meghoma as a target after the Englishman came in for the injured Rommens in G51.

Stewart noticed that on BBC Sportscene and suggested that the Belgian’s injury will be treated even more carefully now.

He said: “The big thing for Rangers is that Tuur Rommens is out for a couple of weeks, and they’ll be hoping it’s only a couple of weeks because, for all the attacking prowess Jayden Meghoma can bring, defensively, he’s not sound.

“You look at these opportunities and openings that Dundee United created, and a lot of them are coming down his side. It was a constant theme, particularly in the first half, where they won the ball and countered well.

“With Djiga and Meghoma on the left-hand side, it just felt like there was an opportunity for Dundee United to get more than they did.

“From a Rangers perspective, they’ll really want to wrap Rommens in cotton wool because he’s been a good signing, and if he’s going to miss more than a couple of weeks, that’ll be a concern for Danny Rohl.”

Rommens could be out for weeks at Rangers as we now look into what the defender could be absent for moving forward.

What games could Tuur Rommens miss for Rangers?

Rohl was very secretive in his pre-match press conference, but did reveal that one player would be missing at Ibrox due to injury.

That turned out to be Rommens, leaving Meghoma with an opportunity to come into the starting XI, but he hardly covered himself in glory.

There is now plenty of clamour for the Belgian to return in Govan, but the German head coach has suggested he could miss at least two more games.

That will mean Rommens misses the away clash against Falkirk next Sunday and then will wait on the post-split fixture release.

There will be hope that he will make his return after that, with his presence since signing in January making a massive difference in G51.
