Newcastle get transfer boost after mega off-field plan revealed - expert

Newcastle’s ability to attract players will only grow once a new state-of-the-art training ground is completed.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, amid Newcastle’s plans to build a new £200million training ground.

Newcastle have been planning to build a new training facility in recent years, with the club having been taken over by the Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund [PIF] in 2021.

Eddie Howe’s side currently sit ninth in the Premier League, with the PIF harbouring ambitions to challenge at the top of the table.

Newcastle facility ‘perfectly placed to attract players’

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes the training ground will be a “superb” asset for Newcastle.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness thinks the location for the facility will prove pivotal in attracting players.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well look, it is a big deal for the club, it’s a big investment in a training ground. I remember when I built Finch Farm, which is still one of the top training facilities for Everton, we were looking at about 15-20 million, and now we’re looking at 200 million for a training facility, which is going to be superb.

“And it’s right next to Newcastle Airport, it’s right next to some of the best lovely areas of Ponteland and Darras Hall up there in the north east. So it’s perfectly placed in terms of the location to make Newcastle more attractive for players, which has always been the knock that people didn’t want to go up there.

“But these days, with private jets, etc., helicopters that Michael Owen used to use going up to Newcastle, it makes it very accessible and with a superb facility like this, it’s going to be great.”

Newcastle could be set for further financial boost

Newcastle’s ambitions in the transfer market may also hinge on Champions League qualification, with the club currently five points off the top four in the Premier League table.

Champions League qualification could boost Newcastle’s finances, as could a run in this year’s competition.

The Toon are guaranteed a place in the knockout stages this season, and could secure a top eight finish in the league phase table with victory over PSG on the final matchday.
