Sean Dyche surprise favourite for new Tottenham manager as odds tumble

Sean Dyche is the new surprise favourite to take over at Tottenham Hotspur.

Igor Tudor is now on the brink of the sack after Spurs were once again embarrassed on Tuesday, losing 5-2 away at Atletico Madrid.

It means Tottenham are now preparing for a trip to Anfield to take on Liverpool, before the pointless Champions League return leg in North London against the Spaniards.

This is all in the backdrop of being only one point above the Premier League relegation zone.

With Tudor possibly only lasting four matches, Tottenham are being linked with replacements.

Who are the favourites to take over at Tottenham?

Mauricio Pochettino has been the longstanding favourite to take over in North London, but that isn’t possible until the summer.

With the Argentine preparing to lead the USMNT into a home World Cup, Spurs would have to wait until after June to make their move.

They certainly don’t have that long, so that’s where Dyche comes in.

According to major bookmakers, Dyche is now the 2/1 favourite ahead of Pochettino to become the next permanent Tottenham manager.

Those odds tumbled overnight into the morning, with Roberto De Zerbi, Robbie Keane and Ryan Mason rounding up the top five.

Is Sean Dyche really the answer?

After years of fighting and surviving relegation battles with Everton, Dyche was let go once the Friedkin Group completed their takeover in Merseyside.

Some time off followed that, but the former Burnley man returned at Nottingham Forest earlier this season, only to be let go weeks later.

Forest are one place and one point behind Spurs in the Premier League relegation zone, so any appointment of Dyche wouldn’t fill anyone with confidence.

If anything, it just shows how bad things have gotten.

Looking at the Sofascore graphic above, maybe he would bring more defensive stability, but Spurs need more than that with this failing squad.

You know you’re in a relegation fight when Dyche gets linked with your club, but given his recent record, everyone’s worst nightmare could be about to come true.

Spurs welcome Forest to North London on 22 March, and Dyche may be in charge for that, and three points could make everybody forget about his past.

Now, it’s all about survival.
