Senne Lammens: Manchester United star disrespected by Belgian media after win vs USA
Senne Lammens had a busy evening on Saturday as the Manchester United goalkeeper earned a rare start for Belgium in their 5-2 friendly victory over USA.
The 23-year-old earned just his second senior cap for his country in Atlanta, as Rudi Garcia’s side stepped up their final preparations ahead of this summer’s World Cup.
Lammens may have conceded twice between the posts for the Red Devils, but he also enjoyed plenty of positive moments throughout the game, with three saves and three recoveries to his name by full-time.
However, his efforts have done little to alter his perception in the eyes of the Belgian media, who have arguably been somewhat disrespectful towards him in their assessment of his display.
Lammens has been crucial for United this season, and Michael Carrick will need him on top form once again for the visit of Leeds after the international break.

Belgian media wrong to make Senne Lammens assumption
Lammens is still in the early stages of his international career, as he only made his senior debut in the 7-0 demolition of Liechtenstein back in November.
He is clearly highly rated by the national team setup, but he has so far been unable to usurp Thibaut Courtois as the number one option between the posts.
Stats Lammens Courtois Apps 25 28 Clean Sheets 5 11 Save Percentage 64% 70.7% Saves per 90 2.3 2.07 Goals Prevented 3.10 -0.87 Goals Conceded per 90 1.3 0.86
The former Standard Liege man has been a revelation since his move to Old Trafford last summer, and supporters have delivered glowing praise on several occasions due to the calming presence that he has provided.
That feeling was also reciprocated during his display for Belgium on Saturday night, as he left a “secure impression” on the team, according to HLN.
The same outlet handed the United star an 8/10 match rating, but there was an element of a veiled dig to their assessment of him, as they acknowledged that he remains little more than a “reliable backup” to Courtois.
However, it could certainly be argued that it is disrespectful to Lammens to suggest that he will be unable to challenge the Real Madrid number one for the starting spot in the upcoming tournament, after the season that he has enjoyed in England.
The youngster ranks among the Premier League’s best goalkeepers in terms of goals prevented, and there is still plenty of time to force his way past Courtois in the pecking order between now and the World Cup.
Lammens has altered Man United transfer plan
Ex-Old Trafford chief scout Mick Brown recently told Football Insider that United’s plans to sign a new goalkeeper have been put on hold in recent weeks.
The former recruitment chief revealed that Carrick has been hugely impressed by Lammens since he took the reins as interim boss, and the club’s interest in adding a new shot-stopper has cooled as a result.
Brown outlined that the position is no longer an immediate priority to be strengthened ahead of the summer, with Andre Onana due to return from his loan with Trabzonspor to provide cover alongside Altay Bayindir.
Lammens may have only cost United a fee of around £18million to sign him from Royal Antwerp, but that is already shaping up to be one of their best pieces of business in recent years.
