Tottenham ready to trigger £34m release clause to sign Real Madrid target

Tottenham have set their sights on a young LaLiga forward.

Conor Gallagher and Souza remain the only two arrivals for Spurs this window, begging the question as to whether the uncertainty over Thomas Frank’s future is hindering their business.

Nevertheless, several other players have been linked with a move to Tottenham, who are still in need of several reinforcements if they are to progress up the Premier League table.

One of those is a 22-year-old forward from LaLiga, who has also been linked with a move to Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Victor Munoz emerges as Tottenham transfer target

Tottenham have struggled in all departments this season, though their lack of cutting edge in the final third has arguably been their biggest concern.

In the Premier League, Spurs have scored 33 goals, but the concern stems from the fact that two of their three highest scorers are their centre-backs, with Micky van de Ven and Cristian Romero both having scored four.

As a result, Spurs have turned their attention to signing Victor Munoz, who has eight goal contributions in 23 appearances for Osasuna this season.

A report from Fichajes claims that Tottenham are prepared to trigger his release clause, which is set in the region of £34.7million, despite interest from Real Madrid.

Madrid have a buy-back clause worth around £7m for the 22-year-old forward, but if Tottenham are to move forward with their interest, it could scupper their plans.

Real Madrid could still benefit from Victor Munoz transfer

One way for Madrid to navigate the deal would be to activate their buy-back clause and sell him on for a profit, but that clause would become void if Tottenham move ahead with a deal.

However, the Spanish outfit also retain a sell-on clause in Munoz’s contract at Osasuna, meaning they will be entitled to a certain amount of profit made on his exit.

For Tottenham, it may be seen as a risky type of transfer, given the fact that this is Munoz’s first real season in senior football, having spent several years in Madrid’s academy.

If a deal is to happen this winter, time is running out, with just days left of the transfer window before the deadline on 2 February.
