View: Everton path may have opened up for much-talked about gem as ex-aide accepts error
Everton may well have been given fresh hope of a summer transfer for Juventus forward Edon Zhegrova amid comments made by a former aide.
Zhegrova has once again emerged as a target for Everton over the past week, having struggled to get going during his time in Turin.
The Kosovo international joined Juventus from Lille last summer on a five-year contract, but he has yet to start a single Serie A match.
And amid the recent talk of Everton being ready to move for Zhegrova, Serxhio Mezi, the intermediary who worked on the 26-year-old joining Juve, has now shared some interesting views.

What has been said about Edon Zhegrova’s Juventus future amid Everton gossip?
Zhegrova has certainly been talked about a fair bit of late, as he came in for heavy criticism after an error in Juventus’ Champions League loss to Galatasaray last week.
That is one of 20 appearances the Kosovan has made in all competitions, although just one of those has been starts.
And speaking to Tuttomercato, Mezi accepted that Zhegrova joining Juve last year was an error.
Asked if it was the right choice, he said: “Absolutely not. In my opinion, Juve was the wrong choice, and Zhegrova should leave this summer. This is obviously just my personal opinion.”
While that may be the personal opinion of Zhegrova, it may very well be that of the forward himself given how badly his career is stagnating.
Recent reports suggested Juve are open to selling, and Everton are very much one of those interested, so this could be one to keep a very close eye on at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Who has Zhegrova been likened to?
There was plenty of excitement when Zhegrova first emerged as a target for Everton last summer on the back of scoring 12 goals and assisted a further 10 in 47 appearances for Lille.
Clearly he is a talent, and one Everton could do with as another option in the final third, even if he has struggled at the Allianz Stadium.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News last July, prior to the player putting pen to paper at Juve, French football expert and journalist Luke Entwistle likened Zhegrova to Arjen Robben.
Appearances Goals Assists 47 12 10
“Edon Zhegrova is a difficult one. He’s a really good player, showed it not last season, but the season prior,”” Entwistle said.
“He’s a showboating type, very technical, loves to cut inside, a bit of an Arjen Robben, and loves to cut in and get on his left, excellent in tight spaces and one-on-one, great on the touch lines as well for beating a man.
“Really, he’s just great against low blocks and in compact spaces. He’s always been like that to an extent. The question was always, could he add goals and assists and actually be more decisive and improve his decision-making, because that was also a big weakness of his.“
Juve are unlikely to hold out for too big a fee for Zhegrova, who they are believed to have paid around £12million to sign last year.
And given his situation in Italy, it makes total sense for the Friedkin Group to pursue this deal as we edge closer to the summer months.
