View: Rohl target may have already played final game for current side amid Rangers interest
Pierce Charles may not play again for Sheffield Wednesday amid interest from Rangers following an update provided by Henrik Pedersen.
Danny Rohl worked with goalkeeper Charles at Hillsborough and is said to want him at Ibrox this summer as Jack Butland’s likely replacement.
Charles has attracted interest from multiple clubs, having seen his reputation rise despite Wednesday’s woes, but Rangers are thought to be well positioned to strike a deal.
However, Charles may not get any further opportunities to audition for a transfer – to Rangers or elsewhere – as he is carrying an injury.
With Rangers very much still interested in Charles, Pedersen has shared a fitness update on the Wednesday shot-stopper.
🚨 RANGERS TRANSFER UPDATE 🚨
The latest breaking news on signings, departures, and Danny Röhl’s primary targets.
Pierce Charles nursing injury issue – how could it effect Rangers interest?
Charles has been used 19 times in all competitions this season for Wednesday, who are heading to League One.
Should Charles arrive this summer, it could spark a goalkeeper merry-go-round at Rangers that would impact Liam Kelly and possibly even Jack Butland.
Pierce Charles 25-26 (Championship) Statistic Appearances 17 Clean sheets 2 Goals conceded 32 Total saves 73 Penalties saved 0/2 Goals conceded per game 1.9
But the 20-year-old is currently nursing an injury that ruled him out of the Owls’ defeat to Middlesbrough in midweek.
And providing an update on Charles’ fitness, as per the Sheffield Star, boss Henrik Pedersen said Charles will now undergo tests to see if he can play in Wednesday’s final two games of a dismal campaign.
“We will test it [Thursday] and [Friday], but there was no chance that he would play [against Boro],” Pedersen said.
However, Charles not playing again this season – should the worst-case scenario come true for Wednesday – will not really matter to Rangers.

Rohl has already seen enough and is clearly a big fan of the young stopper, who could be Rangers’ number one for years to come.
How does Charles rank against other goalkeepers in Championship?
It is worth remembering that Charles is still just 20 years old yet has played 34 times for Sheffield Wednesday already.
This season, he has a save percentage of 70.5, which is the 11th best of any goalkeeper in the English second tier.
He is top of the pile in terms of goals against per 90 minutes (1.88), but this is largely down to the fact he is being protected by such a weak defence.
Indeed, Charles’ 4.35 saves per 90 this season is bettered only by Preston North End’s Jack Walton (4.67), showing just how active he has been.
Many will no doubt look at the stats and question why Rangers are interested in the relatively unknown stopper, but Rohl has shown he deserves the trust when it comes to targets.
