View: Rohl to feel even more encouraged by telling Rangers stat reveal pre-Dundee United

Danny Rohl will feel encouraged as Rangers have history on their side as they return to Scottish Premiership action against Dundee United at Ibrox on Saturday.

The Bears have done a brilliant job to get back into the mix for the title, and they need to finish the regular season in convincing fashion before the split.

Back-to-back wins over St Mirren and Aberdeen have left Rohl’s side three points behind Hearts with just seven games to go.

They now face Jim Goodwin’s Dundee United, who sit eighth in the Scottish Premiership, but come off the back of a fantastic 2-0 win over Celtic before the international break.

Rangers should beat Dundee United comfortably, and could go top ahead of Hearts, even if only for a day.

Rangers look set to continue emphatic recent record vs Dundee United

Both meetings this season ended in 2-2 draws, with the Bears needing late equalisers on both occasions to rescue themselves from embarrassing defeats.

Rangers are unbeaten in 12 league meetings with Dundee United since a 1-0 defeat at Tannadice in August 2021.

In fact, Dundee United have only won one of their last 22 league visits to Rangers, a 3-2 victory in April 2011 under Peter Houston.

Throughout his managerial career, Goodwin has only avoided defeat against the Ibrox outfit on four occasions, with his only win coming in 2020 while he was in charge of St Mirren.

This has been a fixture that Rangers have emphatically dominated over the last 15 years, which will give Rohl a lot of confidence.

With Hearts and Celtic playing on Sunday, Rohl’s side could end the day top of the league with a win.

And if the Light Blues secure all three points and the Jambos lose away to Livingston, they’ll officially be first with all sides having six games left to play.

How Danny Rohl has got the best out of his entire squad

Rohl knows that if his players can take care of business against Dundee United, Rangers’ momentum will only increase as the season approaches its climax.

And it mustn’t go unnoticed that he has gotten the best out of a squad that he hasn’t fully assembled.

Rangers have had 19 different goalscorers (excluding own goals) in the Scottish Premiership this season.

Since their promotion back to the top flight in 2016, only in 2023-24 (20) have they had more in a single campaign.

Although they may not have a standout player who is consistent going forward, every player is playing their part to ensure that the Bears have the best chance of winning the Scottish Premiership for the first time since 2020-21.
