View: Winter signing is already showing he's the future of key Rangers department

Tochi Chukwuani has made an excellent start to his Rangers career, and already looks capable of commanding Gers’ engine room for many years to come.

Arriving as the first of four new signings in this season’s winter transfer window, it wasn’t immediately clear how big of a role Chukwuani would play in his first few months at Ibrox.

Having only just turned 23-years old on 24 March, the Denmark youth international had only ever turned out in Austrian and Danish football respectively before making the switch to the Scottish Premiership.

As such, he was always going to be afforded a transitional period in Glasgow if he so required one, but as it’s turned out, that wasn’t necessary.

Chukwuani has already pretty much cemented a starting role in Danny Rohl‘s XI, and looks set to play a massive part in Rangers’ Scottish Premiership title run-in over the coming weeks.

How well has Tochi Chukwuani performed for Rangers?

Chukwuani is one of Rangers’ most important players already, with three goals from his first 11 appearances in all competitions.

Operating next to Nicolas Raskin in a central midfield pairing, the Dane has been a delight to watch, and has taken to life in Scotland with confidence and assurance.

As per Sofascore, Chukwuani has a goal conversion of 14 per cent, has completed 91 per cent of his passes inside his own half and has recovered an average of 3.9 balls per game.

He’s also made an average of 2.0 tackles per game, won 56 per cent of his total duels, has a 50 per cent dribble success rate and has yet to be shown any form of card this term either.

Chukwuani looks comfortable operating in wide areas too, as he’s shown through his regular deployment as the left-sided central midfielder, with Rohl allowing him to pick up the ball and take up position down the flank when necessary.

Overall, it’s been a hugely impressive start to his Rangers career, and with plenty of room still to grown and improve the more he continues to settle in, Gers’ future at the position only continues to look more secure in Chukwuani’s hands.

Rangers don’t need to worry about Raskin succession plan

Heading towards the summer transfer window, speculation will once again be rife over a potential Ibrox exit for Chukwuani’s midfield partner, Raskin.

The Belgian has once again been a talismanic presence in the Gers midfield, and now 25 and in the prime of his career, he may well wish to seek a fresh challenge in a bigger competition.

Rangers fans have been fearing the day Raskin leaves pretty much ever since he joined from Standard Liege in January 2023, as like with Chukwuani, it became immediately obvious he was a quality player.

However, now that Chukwuani is here, Ibrox chiefs don’t need to sweat nearly as much over having to source his replacement, as in the Dane, they already seem to have found him.
