David Moyes reaction to Armstrong recall shared as 'vital' Everton update emerges today - report

Everton have recalled Harrison Armstrong to kickstart their January transfer window.

Armstrong was impressing on loan at Preston in the Championship, but David Moyes always made it clear that he could return to the Hill Dickinson Stadium this month.

Everton are currently battling several injury and availability issues in the Premier League, with Idrissa Gueye just one of those out in midfield.

Armstrong has now returned, but it may not be the end of that specific story.

Harrison Armstrong set for busy January transfer window

There is the possibility that Armstrong could still return to Preston before the end of January.

Alan Nixon has now reported via his Patreon that the midfielder will be watched by Moyes until the end of the month, before another decision is made on his immediate future.

It is said that Armstrong faces a “vital” month, as Moyes only wants him to remain at Everton if he is being used consistently in the squad.

If not, the 18-year-old is open to returning to Deepdale or even sticking around on Merseyside to fight for his spot in the Toffees squad.

Harrison Armstrong so far at Everton

In between his loan spells at Derby and Preston over the past couple of seasons, Armstrong enjoyed a sensational cameo for Everton versus Mansfield.

Armstrong was sensational in the Carabao Cup victory, before he was shipped away to Deepdale for more exposure and senior minutes.

With only four substitute appearances for 48 minutes in the Premier League so far, it is clear that the loans away would have done him the world of good.

Merlin Rohl has struggled with injuries so far since arriving, but he did shine from the start in the 2-0 win over Nottingham Forest.

There was little to no depth on the bench at the City Ground outside of Jack Grealish and Beto, so Armstrong’s return is very welcome.

James Garner, Tim Iroegbunam and Rohl are the only three senior starters available in midfield right now, so it is the perfect time for the youngster to prove himself, starting against Brentford.
