Finance Guru: Everton could agree £10m-a-year shirt sponsor deal after talks revealed

Everton could agree a deal worth around £10million a year for their front-of-shirt sponsorship with CMC Markets.

That is according to former Manchester City financial adviser Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider the Toffees have held “promising” talks with potential partners.

Sky News reported on 28 March CMC Markets is in talks with Everton and Fulham about shirt deals for next season.

It said the London-listed financial services group’s potential agreements with the Premier League clubs could be worth an aggregate of around £50m over three years.

Everton are currently sponsored by Stake, but a Premier League ban on front-of-shirt gambling sponsors is set to come into effect at the start of next season.

How Everton ‘momentum’ is improving sponsor talks

Everton submitted their latest accounts for 2024-25 last week, showing their revenue increased from £187m in 2023-24 to £197m last season.

Meanwhile, the Merseyside giants’ wage bill dropped from £157m to £152m across the same period.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Borson discussed Everton’s latest accounts and their potential shirt sponsor deal with CMC Markets.

“The numbers are sort of what you’d expect,” said Borson.

“Everything’s under control in terms of what they’ve spent last season. The wage bill is fairly low. It’s not a very exciting set of numbers, but it’s all because it’s the precursor to now. This is where it starts to get interesting for Everton.

“For the current season, the stadium has been open. Obviously, they are generating substantially more on a matchday and seem to be generating more commercially as well. Momentum is good towards the top of the table and conversations with advertisers look promising.”

How Everton and Fulham could split shirt sponsor deals

Borson revealed how the deals with CMC Markets could be broken down between Everton and Fulham.

“I’m assuming it’s not 50-50 with Fulham,” said Borson.

“There’s talk of two deals for £50m. That probably means both of them. Maybe I’m wrong there, but that’s how I read it that they would take Everton and Fulham’s shirt, and they would pay £50m across both of them for three years.

“That would be approximately £25m each, but you probably weight it slightly on Everton’s side, so let’s say Everton get £10m for each of the three years and Fulham get let’s say £7m.

“Maybe they mean £50m for three years at Everton, but clearly they’re moving in the right direction.”
