Ibrox View: 49ers have financial hurdle preventing possible record Rangers deal
Rangers are reportedly keen on signing Swansea City’s star striker Zan Vipotnik.
According to a report from Football FanCast, Rangers will be looking to sign another striker this summer in order to compete with Youssef Chermiti and Ryan Naderi.
It’s reported that Gers have set their sights on Vipotnik, who is the EFL Championship’s current leading scorer with 16 goals.
Premier League duo Sunderland and Nottingham Forest have also been credited with an interest in the 23-year-old, but it’s Rangers’ promise of European football next season that is said to have them at the front of the queue.

Swansea’s reported Zan Vipotnik asking price is eye-watering
Swansea signed Vipotnik on a free transfer in the summer of 2024 following the mutual termination of his contract with Bordeaux, and now the Welsh outfit look set to be bankrolled by the big centre-forward.
In his debut 2024-25 season with the Swans, he scored a humble seven goals in 40 total appearances, however, the Slovenian international has taken his game to another level this term.

As detailed in the above graphic from Sofascore, 16 Championship goals and just 39.2 touches per goal so far this season is seeing Vipotnik establish himself as one of the very best strikers in that division.
As such, he’s primed to be one of the finest pieces of transfer business in Swansea history, with top clubs across European football now catching wind of his talent.
However, should Rangers want to bring him to Ibrox this summer, then the 49ers may well have to jump over a huge financial hurdle.
That’s because according to a report from WalesOnline, Swansea are said to value Vipotnik in the region of £15million.
Vipotnik would set a new Scottish transfer record at £15m
Should Vipotnik move to Rangers for £15m, they would be creating club, and indeed Scottish football, transfer history.
The current most expensive signing in Scottish football history remains the £12m Rangers splashed on Tore Andre Flo from Chelsea, all the way back in November 2000.
That proved to be a wise investment too, with the Norwegian scoring 38 goals in 72 appearances in Glasgow, cementing his place as a Gers great.
However, given the recent fees spent on Chermiti, Naderi and Bojan Miovski respectively, spending what would surely be their entire – or at least vast percentage – of their summer budget on Vipotnik is surely unlikely.
If they did, however, then he and Chermiti could form a strike partnership that spearheads Rangers towards many bright days ahead.
