Ibrox View: Winter signing already under pressure as Rangers take £2m gamble

Rangers’ transfer deadline day saw them finally get a new striker over the line, with Ryan Naderi joining the club.

Overall, it was quite a frantic day for those at Ibrox, as there were plenty of twists and turns in the Naderi transfer.

At some points, it was unclear whether a deal would go through for the German forward, as Hansa Rostock stalled on accepting Rangers’ offer.

However, luckily for Danny Rohl, the player has joined the club, with Naderi’s announcement video taking a dig at rivals Celtic.

With the transfer window now over, some more details have begun emerging about the saga.

Rangers paid premium to sign Ryan Naderi now

The Gers had looked to bring in a new frontman, with Cameron Archer tipped to move to Ibrox, but Southampton’s failure to secure a replacement meant that deal was off.

Naderi was another on Rohl’s shortlist, but Hansa Rostock seemed unwilling to part ways with their number nine this winter.

There was talk that Naderi would join the Glasgow club in the summer with a deal agreed now, but in the end, he will feature for the G51 outfit this season.

That now looks to be the case because Rangers upped their offer for the German on the final day of the window to entice Hansa Rostock to sanction the sale.

Originally looking to pay €3.5million (£3m), the Bears instead offered €5.5m (£5m) to secure the deal now, according to Rangers Review.

Why Naderi premium is a big but necessary gamble for Rangers

There is no doubt about it; Rangers needed another striker for the rest of the season if they wanted any chance of winning the Scottish Premier League.

Youssouf Chermiti’s four league goals is not good enough for a league-challenging side, and now the arrival of Naderi gives the Gers some added firepower.

Signing a striker from the third tier of German football is a big gamble, especially when you have paid a premium price to bring him in now.

Naderi will have a lot of pressure on his shoulders, and the forward’s price tag means he may not be afforded much time by the fanbase.

Eight goals in 18 games in the 3. Liga is also not anything to write home about either.

Naderi will start on a clean slate at Rangers, and if he can provide the goods up top, then talk of his price will no longer be relevant.

There is a league title to be won, and if the new arrival hits the ground running, there is every chance number 56 comes to Ibrox.
