Neil Warnock aims savage dig at Tottenham boss Igor Tudor as he begins new managerial role
Neil Warnock has joked that he would do a better job at Tottenham than Igor Tudor.
The 77-year-old, who has a wealth of experience across a 46-year career in management, was appointed as the caretaker boss of Torquay United on Sunday.
Warnock has been working as an advisor to the Torquay board since the summer of 2024 and has now taken temporary charge of the National League South outfit after they sacked Paul Wotton.
Despite the 103 places between Torquay and Tottenham in the English football pyramid, Warnock was eager to give his thoughts on the North London side during his first press conference in his new role.
Neil Warnock ‘surprised’ he hasn’t been given the call by Tottenham
Warnock has often been included in a group of ‘no-nonsense’ British managers who are called upon to save Premier League sides from relegation.
The likes of Tony Pulis and Sam Allardyce are also branded with the same tag, but Tottenham went down a different route in their fight to stay up, bringing in former Juventus boss Tudor.
Warnock made reference to his ‘firefighter’ reputation on Monday, as he spoke to the media for the first time since being appointed by Torquay.
As reported by Sky Sports, the former Sheffield United and QPR manager joked that he was surprised that neither Spurs nor Nottingham Forest had given him a call, adding that he could do a better job than both Tudor and Vitor Pereira.
Warnock said: “It’s a surprise for me to be here today, I mean, I thought I would’ve been at Tottenham or at Forest or somewhere like that.
“You know, I could do a better job, couldn’t I? But no, they never asked me.”
Warnock aimed another dig at Tottenham and Tudor when he was asked whether he would continue on as manager following Torquay’s clash with Farnborough on Tuesday evening.
He said: “I’ve got nothing after tomorrow night in my mind. I could be at Tottenham on Friday night couldn’t I? You just don’t know in football.”
Igor Tudor must get results to end Tottenham jokes
Tudor has borne the brunt of a number of cruel jokes since taking over at Tottenham, especially given he has suffered two defeats in his first two games.
The Croatian has also faced criticism for his style of play, and there are even suggestions that he could be dismissed if Spurs lose their next few matches.
Spurs sit 16th in the Premier League, just four points clear of the relegation zone ahead of a crucial game against Crystal Palace on Thursday evening.

In order to quell all the talk around him, Tudor simply has to start getting results at Tottenham, and the clash with Palace would be the perfect time to spark a turnaround.
