'Never seen that before' - BBC pundit can't quite believe Everton player's actions vs West Ham
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall’s restart to the second half was branded “ridiculous” in Everton‘s 2-1 loss at West Ham on Saturday.
After a gut-wrenching 2-1 loss to rivals Liverpool last time out, a result that dampened their hopes of European football next season, Everton needed a response at relegation-threatened West Ham.
But there wasn’t much urgency from David Moyes‘ side on his return to London Stadium, especially in the first half.
The travelling Toffees fans had their heads in their hands after Tomas Soucek gave West Ham a 51st-minute lead, as the Hammers tried to pull away from the bottom three. Dewsbury-Hall looked to have grabbed a late equaliser, only for Callum Wilson to grab the winner.
Everton fell to a second defeat in a row, as their hopes of European football continue to fade. And one incident in the game may have summed up the Merseyside outfit’s questionable tactics.

Everton criticised for ‘daft’ rugby-like restart
When the players returned to the pitch after the half time interval, Everton supporters were hoping for a fast start in the capital.
Instead, they got something quite different.

Instead of passing back to his teammates, Dewsbury-Hall took a touch, flicked the ball up and then walloped the ball high into the sky.
The ball went out for a throw, something that left BBC Sport commentator Charlie Slater and former West Ham man Matt Jarvis bemused.
Slater said: “That is one of the most ridiculous restarts I’ve ever seen – that was daft.”
And Jarvis added: “I have never seen that before, incredible. It was like an up an over, just get it as high as you possibly can. It’s like rugby.”
Everton made to pay for slow start
After creating nothing of note in the first half, Everton fell behind early in the second half as West Ham caught them unawares through Soucek.
The Toffees only really started playing after the hour mark, with Thierno Barry going closest to an equaliser, only for his header to be cleared off the line by Soucek.
Everton did draw level through Dewsbury-Hall in the 88th minute but substitute Wilson scored for the ninth time against the Toffees to make it 2-1 two minutes into second-half stoppage time.
Everton’s 2-1 defeat to West Ham sees the Toffees drop to 11th place, with seventh-placed Bournemouth – who are in the last European qualification spot – two points ahead with four games to go.
