Rangers have new role to fill as Ibrox figure poised to take up new job - report
Rangers will reportedly aim to bring in a new head of academy scouting before the 2026-27 season begins as James Fowler is set to depart.
Fowler has held the role at Ibrox since March 2024, having taken over from Phil Cowen following his move to English heavyweights Arsenal.
The 42-year-old previously managed Queen of the South and had caretaker spells in charge of Kilmarnock and Sunderland.
He also played over 400 games in his playing career, making him more than qualified for the position at Rangers.
However, amid uncertainty over the future of head coach Danny Rohl, Fowler looks set to move on imminently.

James Fowler set to join Newcastle United
Fowler’s appointment at Rangers was hailed a couple of years ago, but his time in Glasgow is coming to an end.
As per a report by Rangers Review on Friday morning, Fowler is set to link up with former Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson at Newcastle United.

The report adds that the Gers will look to bring in a replacement before next season starts. David McCallum is set to oversee the new academy structure, meanwhile.
Fowler previously worked as head of football operations at Kilmarnock, but he lost his position due to internal restructuring.
While not a great deal is known about the day-to-day operations of the role held by Fowler, it is clearly an important one and one that the Gers will need to quickly work to find the right replacement.
Fowler not the only figure who could be on way out of Rangers
There could be further changes behind the scenes at Ibrox over the summer on the back of what has been – let’s face it – a dreadful campaign.
Some will choose to move on, as seems the case with Fowler, while others may be pushed.

Head coach Rohl would fall into the first of those categories were he to leave, which may be the case based on recent reports.
Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are said to have made Rohl their top target to take charge from next season.
The German last year admitted he would jump at the chance to manage in the top tier back in his homeland.
The Wolfsburg job may therefore be too much to turn down if the opportunity does present itself.
But Rangers would have a say in that, and there is no indication that Andrew Cavenagh and Co. have any intention of letting Rohl leave.
This is very much one to keep an eye on.
