Rohl asks Rangers chief to check on player that Ferguson thought he had signed at Ibrox - report
Rangers have entered the January transfer window aware that the rebuild may yet be bigger than the recent summer changes have been.
Danny Rohl enters his first transfer window since replacing Russell Martin, with Andrew Cavenagh already holding talks over possible targets.
Rangers go to Parkhead on Saturday knowing that a win can take them level with Celtic and only three points behind league leaders, Hearts.
New signings look unlikely before that game, but James Penrice’s name is gaining traction.

Rangers are looking for a new left-back, and the AEK Athens star could be the man.
According to the print edition of the Daily Record on Thursday, the Bears are considering resurrecting their summer move for Penrice.
After leaving Hearts for Greece in a deal worth £2million, another move back to Scotland is now on the cards.
It is said that Rohl has told Dan Purdy to check on his performances in Athens, with the German reportedly remaining a real fan of the possibly Ibrox-bound star.

Barry Ferguson thought he had signed James Penrice
After a positive start as interim manager, Barry Ferguson thought he had wrapped up a deal to bring Penrice to Ibrox, but that fell through.
Rangers instead appointed Martin, and we all know how that ended.
Jayden Meghoma is currently the only out-and-out left back in the squad at Ibrox, with Max Aarons and James Tavernier both failing in spells there.
Another option would allow those two to remain on the right in their preferred spots, which will only help improve the overall quality of the squad.
Penrice knows the Scottish Premiership, from his spells at Livingston and Hearts, and those are the types of players that are desperately needed.

Rangers have had years of unbelievable output from Tavernier, but apart from random spells from Borna Barisic, they’ve never had that on the left.
Penrice could deliver exactly that, and after delivering on the continent in recent months, it is time to return to Scotland and shine for Rohl and the Bears.
