Scots journo moots Rangers door for striker deal to open after developments elsewhere
Rangers are sweating over the possibility of signing Southampton striker Cameron Archer in the final hours of the winter transfer window.
Archer has been heavily linked with a move to Ibrox, with the Gers well-advancing on a deal to reach an agreement to sign him on loan until the end of the season.
However, Southampton are also working on Adam Armstrong’s sale to Wolves, which could have a knock-on effect on the Light Blues’ deal for the former Aston Villa forward.
Danny Rohl will surely be eager to get a deal over the line for the 24-year-old, and it looks like that may eventually happen late on Deadline Day.

Southampton search for striker gives Rangers hope in Cameron Archer saga
Southampton are looking to reinforce their attack amid Armstrong and Archer’s links away from the club, Scott Burns says.
The Scottish journalist believes that if the Saints do sign another number nine in the coming hours, the doors will open for the Walsall-born forward to move to Ibrox.
Fans in G51 will surely be keeping a keen eye on any deal that could potentially happen at the Glaswegian outfit, but a move for the English striker may not be enough get fans off their seat looking at his Sofascore comparison with Youssef Chermiti and Bojan Miovski.
Speaking on Hotline Live on 1 February, Burns said, “They’re obviously keen to get Archer in. That was well advancing down the road. I think they might have a wee sweat now. The concern is that Southampton, it looks like, are about to sell Armstrong, possibly to Wolves. But they are trying to get another striker in. And I think if they get the other striker in, that should open the door for Archer to make the move to Ibrox.”
It looks like Rohl will eventually sign Hansa Rostock striker Ryan Naderi, but he won’t arrive before the end of the season.
The German manager undoubtedly needs a new number nine at his disposal, but it remains to be seen whether that will be Archer or someone else.
Ibrox hierarchy to surprise with alternative striker signing
Leeds United attacker Joel Piroe has dismissed a move to Ibrox, with the Gers also looking to bring him in earlier in the window to reinforce their forward line.
Naderi, Archer and the Suriname international have been the three prominent names being linked with Rangers in the last few weeks, and if they can’t get either of them before the 2 February deadline at 11pm, then they will surely have to look for alternatives.
Danilo seems to be on his way to NEC Nijmegen, leaving the Light Blues with an evident priority up front.
The Glaswegian outfit’s hierarchy may have an unknown name up their sleeves to provide Rohl with an additional striker if they can’t secure what look like their prime targets soon.
