Tottenham: Supercomputer makes new relegation prediction after Brighton heartbreak

Tottenham Hotspur came within minutes of recording a first Premier League win of 2026 on Saturday, with Brighton ultimately finding a stoppage-time equaliser.

Georginio Rutter’s 95th-minute finish stunned the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium and saw the Lilywhites condemned to the relegation zone for at least another week.

Pedro Porro had put Tottenham ahead in the first half before Kaoru Mitoma equalised with a stunning volley.

But the North London side pushed on, and went ahead when Xavi Simons’ brilliant strike cannoned in off the post and sent the stands into raptures.

Tottenham’s horrendous form has continued to increase their chances of relegation in the wake of Saturday’s game, with West Ham able to open up a four-point gap on Sunday.

Supercomputer increases Tottenham relegation chances

Football Insider exclusively revealed on Saturday that Bayern Munich are interested in Pape Matar Sarr, and he is among several players who could leave if Tottenham are relegated.

The midfielder was missing from Saturday’s squad through injury, joining the likes of Mohammed Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski on the injury table.

Injuries have certainly been unkind to the Lilywhites this season, with Cristian Romero also set to sit the rest of the season out after a knee injury picked up against Sunderland.

The Argentine has received plenty of criticism this season, but his presence was felt in the final moments of Saturday’s game.

His replacement, Kevin Danso, intercepted Yankuba Minteh’s cross in the build-up to the late equaliser, bizarrely deciding to take a touch instead of thumping the ball clear.

The defender was instantly punished for his decision, with Jean Paul van Hecke dispossessing him inside the Tottenham box and cutting the ball back for the goal-scorer Rutter.

It is a moment that could well prove fatal at the end of the season, and Opta‘s supercomputer certainly thinks so.

Having placed their chances at 46.50 per cent of relegation following the Sunderland game, the supercomputer has now boosted that number to 54.22 per cent.

Tottenham’s final five

The final five games of Tottenham’s season are some of the biggest in the club’s 143-year history.

Wolves away will be up first, with the Premier League’s bottom club, on paper, representing the best chance the Lilywhites have of breaking their winless streak.

After that, it’s a difficult trip to Aston Villa before a home match against the in-form Leeds United.

Then to Chelsea at Stamford Bridge, before Tottenham round off the season by facing one of the Premier League’s best teams on the road in Everton.

De Zerbi’s side could well already know their fate by then, with each and every minute mattering massively now.
