Seamus Coleman has played more minutes for Republic of Ireland than Everton this season, but his presence in the dressing room is still invaluable for David Moyes

There will be little debate about Coleman’s stature at Everton. He is a modern great of the club and undoubtedly a legend.

As seen by Moyes’ treatment of plenty of players in the squad, the Scotsman clearly values experience and strong characters.

Both of which Coleman has in abundance throughout his 17-year career with the Blues.

However, an admission from Ireland teammate Chiedozie Ogbene could have an implication for Everton’s season.

What did Chiedozie Ogbene say about Seamus Coleman?

Coleman is a player that many look up to, especially his teammates at the international level.

The Everton defender’s presence in the Irish squad allowed them to do the unthinkable and turn around their World Cup hopes, but it did unfortunately end in heartbreak.

Now, Ogbene has come forward and explained exactly how the 37-year-old was able to help rally his nation.

Speaking ahead of Ireland’s friendly against North Macedonia, the Sheffield United man spoke about Coleman’s influence, stating: “He always gives an emotional speech, which cuts me to the heart. I always fight for him.”

While as an Irishman and former captain of his country Coleman’s words at the international level may cut deeper; he has spent 17 years at Everton, giving his voice even more authority.

Even if his play time will be limited for the Merseyside club, Moyes could turn to Coleman to rally his players up further.

With European football on the line, it is worth trying to extract strong performances in as many ways as conceivably possible. If Coleman can get his countrymen to “fight” who is to say he cannot do the same at club level too?

The Toffees legend could have a major role to play yet this campaign, even if not directly affecting proceedings on the pitch.

Coleman’s international twilight may be around the corner

At 37 years old, Coleman will likely not play in another international tournament for Ireland, but you can never say never.

The likelihood is that the Everton man will hang up his international boots within the next year as Heimir Hallgrimsson ushers in the next generation.

There is every chance that Ireland’s game against North Macedonia is the last of Coleman in the Irish jersey.

And as it stands, the same could be said about Coleman at Everton, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
