Manchester United can use Manuel Ugarte transfer play to advance Sandro Tonali talks

Manchester United are interested in signing Sandro Tonali this summer and should use Newcastle’s reported interest in Manuel Ugarte to land the Italian in a swap deal of sorts.

The Red Devils are planning to make some big changes to their midfield this summer, with Casemiro set to depart and numerous top players linked to Old Trafford.

Elliot Anderson, Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton are all believed to be on their radar, with Tonali also linked amid rumours around his future at Newcastle.

The Italian has shone in the middle of the park once for Eddie Howe’s side this season, but The Athletic have reported that the cost of a deal could put an end to United’s interest.

Man United’s transfer plans are becoming apparent as the end of the campaign looms, and if they do want to sign Tonali above any other target, they could use Ugarte as a makeweight after a new report.

Ugarte has come in for some criticism from United fans over the last 12 months, but has still been a reliable performer off the bench since the turn of the year.

According to Uruguayan outlet El Pais, Newcastle made an approach to sign him in the January window but saw their offer rebuffed by Man United, with Aston Villa also knocked back.

The report states that he is now likely to leave the club this summer, with Atletico Madrid interested in his services.

His statistics from this season show that he has been better than Tonali from a defensive standpoint, but the Italian is better going forward and creating chances.

Football Insider recently revealed that Man United have shortlisted Tonali ahead of the summer, and if they do want to sort a deal out to sign him, it would surely now make sense to offer Ugarte to Newcastle in return.

The Daily Mail have reported that Newcastle could be forced to sell Tonali or Anthony Gordon this summer if they fail to make the Champions League.

Man City and Arsenal are both known to be interested in his services alongside United, but he is unlikely to return to Italy due to the hefty fee that will be involved in any transfer.

Two of the UK’s biggest bookmakers have priced Man United as the 10/3 favourites to be Tonali’s club at the end of the summer window after Newcastle.

Arsenal are just behind them at odds of 4/1, while Liverpool are 11/2 and Man City come in at odds of 7/1 to sign the 25-year-old.
