Chelsea must accelerate Liam Rosenior sack decision as Enzo Fernandez collision course set

Chelsea have just seen a huge sense of urgency added to their decision regarding Liam Rosenior’s long-term future as manager.

The 41-year-old is under pressure at Stamford Bridge after they were embarrassed by PSG in the Champions League, and there is a growing feeling that his future could be up for discussion this summer, despite the board publicly indicating that he will be given until the end of next season.

There have been several reports of unrest within the Chelsea camp in recent weeks, and Enzo Fernandez has now been made unavailable for selection after fuelling speculation regarding a move to Real Madrid this summer.

The Argentine is set to miss the FA Cup quarter-final with Port Vale and the Premier League clash with Manchester City as a result, but it is surely a sign of much greater issues in West London.

Chelsea’s managerial situation has already faced questions of late, and with Rosenior and Fernandez now on a collision course, the board may be forced into an uncomfortable decision.

Enzo Fernandez has put Chelsea in impossible situation

Former Everton and Aston Villa chief executive Keith Wyness told Football Insider earlier this week that Fernandez is likely to leave Chelsea this summer, having received offers from Saudi Arabia in recent months.

News of his absence from the squad in the coming weeks is a clear indication that he is unhappy under the guidance of Rosenior, and that situation appears unlikely to be repairable any time soon.

Real Madrid are lurking to try and take him to the Bernabeu in the summer, and if Rosenior is set to be in charge of the team again next season, then it looks increasingly likely that Fernandez will force a move.

His actions have left the club hierarchy in something of an impossible situation, where they may now effectively have to choose between the poster boy that they splashed the cash to bring in, or the man who they selected to lead their project long-term.

The board are clearly hopeful that Rosenior will be able to turn the team’s recent struggles around, but they must surely now accelerate their final decision regarding his long-term future.

If they are still confident that he is the right man for the job, then they can likely count on losing Fernandez this summer, but if they opt to pull the trigger ahead of next season, then they may yet have time to convince the midfielder to stay.

Liam Rosenior’s position to be affected by BlueCo protest

Chelsea fans have planned a protest against their club’s BlueCo ownership ahead of the home clash with Manchester United on 18 April, while even supporters of their sister club Strasbourg are travelling over to take part.

Wyness recently told Football Insider that he expects Rosenior could be put under even greater threat of losing his job, as Todd Boehly and Co. look to react to the pressure set to be created by the demonstration.

Stamford Bridge is not a happy place at the moment, due to the clear disconnect between the support and those at the top of the club.

It is very hard to achieve success in football when those factors are in play, and if Rosenior does lose his job in the summer, then he will surely feel that he hasn’t truly been given a fair crack of the whip.
