Expert: Crystal Palace could land 'huge' boost in efforts to keep star players

Adam Wharton, Maxence Lacroix and Daniel Munoz are among a number of star players who Crystal Palace are determined to keep hold of his summer.

The Eagles are bracing for interest in a number of their most important players ahead of what is set to be a busy summer, with Oliver Glasner also on his way out.

Despite putting plans in place to keep these players at Selhurst Park, growing interest from a number of European clubs is set to make their ambitions difficult.

However, former Man United chief scout Mick Brown told Football Insider that winning the Conference League and securing Europa League qualification would be a huge boost.

The club are expected to make efforts to keep their best players after losing both Marc Guehi and Eberechi Eze this season, but Crystal Palace could face a difficult transfer window.

How can Crystal Palace keep their best players?

Brown told Football Insider on 26 February that Crystal Palace are fearful of a mass exodus of their best players ahead of the summer transfer window.

As a result, they are bracing for interest in a number of key stars and hope they will be able to persuade them to stay as part of an ambitious project.

Having won the FA Cup last season, the Eagles have set their sights on European silverware, and believe further success will hand them a “huge” boost.

“Keeping their best players is the top priority for Palace,” Brown told Football Insider.

“There’s interest in a lot of them, we speak every week about this player or that player, whether it’s Wharton, Lacroix, Munoz, and the answer is usually the same.

“Palace have to be doing everything in their power to keep these players at Selhurst Park.

“It’s not as easy as that, of course, when big clubs come calling and you have sides like Liverpool and Real Madrid sniffing around, but they know the situation they’re in.

“If they can go and win the Conference League and play European football again next season, it’ll be a huge boost because there’s clear progress there.

“The players who want to play in Europe will get what they want, and it’ll help Palace sign better quality players to come in alongside them as well.

“With the manager on his way out as well, it’s so important that Palace don’t lose too many of their best players because that will put them in a difficult position.

“It’s just about how they’re going to keep hold of those players, and winning another trophy will be a big step towards doing that.”

Which clubs are interested in Crystal Palace’s stars?

Despite Palace making efforts to keep their best players ahead of the summer window, they are facing interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

Brown told Football Insider that Liverpool and Real Madrid want to sign Wharton and have had scouts keeping a close eye on his performances this season.

The 22-year-old’s performances have attracted high-profile interest, although it is believed it will take a significant fee to prise him away from Selhurst Park.

Arne Slot’s side have also been linked with a move for Lacroix, whose stock has risen since his impressive performances for France during the international break.

Munoz, meanwhile, has been linked with both Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, such is the quality of his performances since arriving at Palace in 2024.
