Gareth Bale uses Everton star as example as to why football's now changing
Gareth Bale believes the way Pep Guardiola used Everton loanee Jack Grealish at Manchester City sums up the way football is heading right now.
Grealish has thrived at Everton in a maverick role, given license to flourish and hurt the opposition with his creative abilities.
However, under the Spaniard, he was essentially in a tactical straightjacket, unable to express himself and having to follow rigid demands.
He has been unlocked again under David Moyes, and Bale had noticed how Guardiola limited the former Aston Villa ace.

What did Bale say about Everton loanee Grealish?
Many observers do not like the way which the beautiful game is heading, and Bale used the example of how Grealish was treated.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast on 5 March, he said: “I don’t know, I look at Grealish, for example, when he was at City, he just stayed out [wide]. I’m like, at Villa, you were coming inside.
“Guardiola is an incredible manager and I would never disrespect him, but that player now doesn’t have the freedom to do what he does best, which is ultimately what got him there.
“So that’s just kind of the way I feel football’s going. Again, it evolves, generations change, long throw-ins are back in play now, so you never know. There’s hope for everything.”
Bale will surely have loved watching Grealish with the Toffees then, as he is not restricted anymore, and he was thriving before his injury.
What next for Grealish when Everton loan finishes?
The future is still uncertain for Grealish, after he suffered a foot injury which is set to keep him out for the season.
Moyes is understood to want to bring the 30-year-old back after the remarkable impact that he had at the Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Whether the Blues are willing to pay the £50million release clause that is agreed as part of his loan deal, though, remains to be seen.
They could surely negotiate a compromise, which would see a lesser fee, as a result of the injury issues that could hamper a potential transfer.
He will likely have options, other than the Blues, but Grealish may want to come and play permanently in front of a fanbase that welcomed him with open arms and made him fall in love with football once again after such a miserable time at the Etihad Stadium.
He could end up sitting in City’s reserves, but that seems unlikely given that his passion for the game is back, however, a fairy tale return to Aston Villa could prove tempting for the veteran winger.
Hopefully, Moyes can convince him and the Friedkins can convince City, and he comes back to Merseyside next season.
