Moyes furious despite warm reception - West Ham vs Everton: Things you may have missed

West Ham frustrated Everton on Saturday, as David Moyes’ side suffered a 2-1 defeat at the London Stadium.

After suffering late heartbreak in the Merseyside derby on Sunday, the Toffees were desperately looking to get back to winning ways.

Instead, their European ambitions have taken another big hit, with Callum Wilson’s injury-time strike sending Moyes’ men home empty-handed.

With four to go, the Blues are in serious danger of letting the season fizzle out, after a fantastic atmosphere surrounded the club amid the push for Europe.

After another disappointing defeat, Goodison News takes a look at some of the things you may have missed at the London Stadium.

David Moyes welcomed back with open arms on West Ham return

Taking over from Sean Dyche last season, Moyes has revitalised the Toffees, after a period of struggle both on and off the pitch.

Away from Merseyside, the Scotsman would enjoy a fantastic spell at the London Stadium, where he guided the Hammers to one of their finest nights, lifting the UEFA Conference League in 2023.

Everton’s last five Premier League finishes

Returning to East London for the first time since his 2024 departure, the much loved manager received his support rom the home support.

Before kick-off, fans close to the dugout would give a round of applause, sharing the moment with him as he waved back at them.

With the Irons battling for their Premier League future, fans at the London Stadium will still look back to the successes under Moyes as a period that was potentially brought to a premature end.

West Ham defender involved in bizarre ‘injury’ incident

With West Ham looking to on for a big win in their fight for survival, the hosts began to run down the clock throughout the second half.

Though, a strange instance of this came via defender El Hadj Malick Diouf.

Going down by the corner flag in the second half, the Senegalese full-back held his face, with there seemingly an issue.

Completing the rather strange incident, Diouf would soon get back to his feet, while replays showed that there was not a single bit of contact.

David Moyes fumes after VAR rules against Everton

Over the course of the bout, VAR was put to its use at both ends of the pitch, with both sides reeling after incidents they felt were worthy of a penalty.

Moments before Soucek’s opener, the Hammers would be denied a chance from the spot, after Jordan Pickford lunched in on Taty Castellanos – the second piece of questionable goalkeeping from a set piece in a week.

In the second period, boss Moyes would fume at a decision not to award a penalty for what he, his side and the travelling supporters all believed to be a stonewaller, as Mateus Fernandes swiped the ball away with his hand.

The Toffees boss would not get his way, and while Everton did equalise, the manner of the loss will likely see his anger continue in the aftermath.
