View: Rangers shouldn't sack Danny Rohl as his coaching isn't set to cost Gers

Rangers would be wise to put their faith in Danny Rohl, as the German has left significant evidence that he will bring future success to Ibrox.

With just three games left to play, Rangers’ hopes of being crowned Scottish Premiership champions for 2025-26 are all but over.

Indeed, the 2-1 defeat to Hearts last time out looks to have landed a knockout blow to their title chances, as Rohl’s side now sit seven points behind the Jambos.

So, whilst those inside the Rangers dressing room won’t be giving up just yet, Ibrox chiefs may have already now shifted their focus towards the summer and the 2026-27 campaign.

Rohl’s future as Rangers manager could now be in question, as there is a significant number of Gers supporters who are far from pleased with how his team has seemingly thrown their chances away in recent games.

How Danny Rohl has improved Rangers on the pitch

Rohl has been linked with the Wolfsburg job in recent days, with the German coach having previously confessed that he would like to manage in Germany.

It remains to be seen just how much that opportunity might interest him should it present itself to him, or any other possible opening for that matter.

Should Rohl leave Ibrox this summer, then it would appear that a considerable number of Gers fans wouldn’t lose sleep over that, but it would be a big loss for the football club if he was to go.

Firstly, Rohl is still only 37, making him one of the youngest gaffers in European football, and so if you’re going to appoint a young and developing coach, you have to be prepared to give him time and allow him to make mistakes and learn from them.

Sacking him after not even one full season, and in one that he’s proven to be a significant upgrade on his predecessor Russell Martin, respectfully, would mean appointing him in the first place look rather silly.

As detailed via Transfermarkt, no side has gone behind less in Scottish Premiership games this season than Rangers, with Gers only trailing games on 10 separate occasions.

Meanwhile, Rangers have never lost from the 24 times they’ve taken the lead in a game this season, no side has scored more than Gers’ 27 goals in the opening 45 minutes of matches or than their 31 between the 46th-90th minute respectively.

Rangers also have the highest goal conversion rate in the Scottish Premiership this season with 9.1 per cent, the best goals per game average of 2.0 and the most shots on target per game with 6.2 respectively.

Rohl’s side have scored the most set-piece goals this season with 21, only Falkirk average more tackles per game (18.6) than Gers’ 17.5, and they have created 35 more chances than Hearts respectively.

Rohl has improved numerous Rangers players

Not only have his tactics and coaching brought about a clear improvement from that seen under Martin, Rohl’s arrival has also seen him improve a number of Gers starts.

Youssef Chermiti has really kicked on under Rohl after a slow start to the season, whilst Bojan Miovski has also evolved into an impactful player as well with 0.50 goals per 90 this term.

Mikey Moore has taken his game to another level under the German, he’s unlocked the star quality of Emmanuel Fernandez, Dujon Sterling has been good since his return and Thelo Aasgaard is a better player now than he was under Martin.

His one and only transfer window as Rangers boss also saw the likes of Tuur Rommens, Ryan Naderi and Tochi Chukwuani join, all of whom look hugely promising purchases for the future.

Sacking Rohl this summer would be a mistake by Rangers, as whilst the end to this season has been disappointing, give him time, back him, and he is a good enough coach to bring success back to Ibrox.
