Bundesliga club bags ₦5.8 billion from Ademola Lookman’s move to Atlético Madrid
Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has finally moved to join Spanish LaLiga club Atletico Madrid from Atalanta during the 2026 January transfer window…
German Bundesliga club RB Leipzig will benefit financially from Ademola Lookman’s transfer to Atlético Madrid, Soccernet.ng reports.
The 2022–23 DFB Pokal champions earned ₦5.8 billion from a sell-on clause included in his previous move to Atalanta. The clause ensures that Leipzig profits despite Lookman’s earlier struggles in the Bundesliga.
The Nigerian forward flew to Madrid on Sunday for his medical examination, with the €40 million deal set to be finalised on Monday.
RB Leipzig to benefit from sell-on clause
According to German outlet BILD, RB Leipzig will receive €3.5 million from Lookman’s transfer to Atlético Madrid. The payment is linked to a sell-on clause inserted when Leipzig sold the Nigerian forward to Atalanta in the summer of 2022 for €9.35 million.

The clause, also reported by Sky, was included as a form of damage control after Lookman failed to meet expectations during his spell in Germany. With Atalanta now cashing in on the winger following his rise in Serie A and Europe, Leipzig are set to profit despite having moved him on three years ago.
Transfer breakdown: Lookman to Atlético Madrid deal
Lookman’s move to Atlético Madrid is reported to be worth a total of €40 million (≈₦66 billion), combining a €35 million base fee and €5 million in performance-based add-ons payable to Atalanta.

As part of the deal, €3.5 million will be sent directly to RB Leipzig, who inserted a sell-on clause when they sold Lookman to Atalanta in 2022 for €9.35 million.
The agreement also includes final details on personal terms, which are being concluded ahead of Lookman’s medical in Madrid.

Once completed, the Spanish club will officially register the Nigerian forward, which will give him a chance to join Diego Simeone’s squad mid-season and bolster Atlético’s attacking options.
