Erling Haaland reacts as Man City finalise post-deadline transfer

Man City confirmed that Kavlin Phillips has departed the club on loan until the end of the season, joining Sheffield United in the Championship.

The former England international has heavily struggled for consistent game time since moving to the Etihad in 2022.

So far this campaign, the 30-year-old midfielder has only made one first-team appearance for Pep Guardiola’s side, coming in the Carabao Cup.

However, he is now seeking to rekindle his form and his career in the second tier, after a late loan move to the Blades was confirmed on Monday after the 7pm deadline, with Erling Haaland reacting to the news.

For Phillips, this will be his third loan move since his transfer to Man City.

In this time, he has gone from a steady Premier League mid-table side in West Ham, to Ipswich Town last season, where he helped oversee their relegation from the top-flight, to now Sheffield United, who themselves are looking to avoid the drop into League One.

It is a massive fall from grace for the former England international, with Phillips once being one of the best players outside of the top six at Leeds United.

Nevertheless, despite his poor time at Man City, he has clearly made an impact on many of the players.

Upon Sheffield United announcing their Instagram on 2 February, Haaland was quick to react to the post.

Here, he simply liked it as Phillips looks to prove himself at the Blades.

How long is left on Phillips’ Man City contract?

With Sheffield United not possessing an option to buy Phillips, it is likely that he will return to the Etihad in the summer.

No matter how well he does at the Blades, it is unlikely that he will be back in the Man City squad any time soon, with it being clear that he is no longer in Guardiola’s plans.

Unfortunately for them, unless they can find a buyer, Phillips is set to remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

Upon signing for Man City, the midfielder secured a six-year contract at the Etihad, something that is still in play to this day.

Therefore, as it stands, Phillips will remain at Man City until 2028, unless an alternative solution is found.
