David Moyes may need to do some wheeling and dealing in the winter window.

Everton are expected to be active in the January transfer window, as Moyes looks to ensure his side continue to battle for European football during the second half of the season.

Everton’s 2-0 win away at Nottingham Forest last time out has seen them move to within striking distance of the top six, with Liverpool four points ahead in fourth and just two points separating them form fifth and sixth respectively as 2026 arrives.

As such, if Everton can do some shrewd shopping in the winter sales, then the Hill Dickinson Stadium crowd could be cheering on their team to one of the best season’s in recent club memory.

So, as the window opens, Goodison News takes a look at every Everton player that Moyes could decide to move on this month.

Everton rethink in attack bad news for Beto

One of Everton’s weakest areas of the squad is at the centre-forward position, both in terms of depth and quality.

Thierno Barry’s only two goals during his debut 2025-26 season so far have came against Nottingham Forest, but with the 23-year-old only just arriving on Merseyside, he’s in no danger of being sold this winter.

The same can’t be said for Beto, however, as the 27-year-old striker just can’t seem to get his Everton career going.

Beto has scored just twice in 21 total appearances for Everton so far this season, and with his 10-goal haul in 2024-25 being his best individual campaign for the Toffees since signing in the summer of 2023, he’s simply failed to prove he’s a goalscorer at Premier League level.

It’s been reported that Everton could use Beto in a swap deal for Roma’s Artem Dovbyk, who is a player that the Toffees are said to be pushing to sign this month.

Change could be coming at left-back

Vitaliy Mykolenko is a divisive player among Everton fans, which largely stems from his struggles remaining consistent.

When at his best, the Ukrainian international looks more than capable of becoming a top left-back in the Premier League, but those Toffees fans are more accustomed to getting glimpses of that potential rather than an extended look.

But, with his contract expiring in the summer, the 26-year-old is facing a very uncertain future on Merseyside.

Galatasaray have been strongly linked with Mykolenko, who can join an overseas club on a pre-contract agreement, which would see him remain with Everton for the remainder of this season, before joining his new team in the summer on a free transfer.

As well as a potential Mykolenko move, a report from The Athletic has also suggested that Everton will discuss the next steps for teenage recruit Adam Aznou, with a loan exit possible for him.

On the other flank, Nathan Patterson could also be afforded a loan move if Everton bolster their right-back position with a new signing.

Everton could lose two key wingers

Like Mykolenko, Dwight McNeil’s contract is also set to expire at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has been featuring more regularly for Everton in recent games, due to a combination of injury issues for Jack Grealish and AFCON duties for Iliman Ndiaye.

However, in a December print edition of The Telegraph, John Percy reported that Everton that Moyes would be willing to sanction a move to Nottingham Forest for McNeil this winter.

Meanwhile, the aforementioned Ndiaye is also known to have his admirers, and it can’t be ruled out that a top club with money to spend comes knocking on Everton’s door at some point over the next few weeks.

Harrison Armstrong could be recalled from his loan with Preston and potentially loaned back out to a new club for the remainder of the season too, but Moyes may want to keep him around for squad depth purposes also.

James Garner disaster situation could become reality

Arguably Everton’s standout player of the season so far, James Garner leaving in January would be many Toffees’ worst transfer nightmare.

However, Garner has been strongly linked with Manchester United, and whilst it remains unlikely he will leave this month given his importance to Moyes, a big-money offer – from Old Trafford or somewhere else – that Everton simply can’t refuse mustn’t be ruled out.

But, with how well he’s performing at Hill Dickinson Stadium and with a World Cup in the summer no doubt firmly in his mind, Garner surely won’t risk his chances of being on England’s plane with a potentially disruptive mid-season move.
